After 11 years of absence and a temporary band separation, System Of A Down is finally coming back to Spain and they will surely know how to reward us for the long wait.
Formed in 1994 in Glendale, California the band still has the same line-up that made them famous: Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums). Together they have achieved an amazing comercial success with the release of five studio albums, three of which debuted at number one on the american Billboard Charts. System of a Down has been nominated for four Grammy awars, and their song ‘B.Y.O.B.’ won the Best Hard Rock Performance of 2006. The group briefly disbanded in August 2006 and reunited in November 2010. The quartet have sold over 40 million records worldwide.
All the members have an Armenian descent and that makes them special and different. Their music and philosophy is not easy to describe. The intensity of metal, the social commentary of rap and a plethora of influences – ranging from the band's Armenian heritage to jazz to Middle Eastern melodies to the nightly news are elements that you can find in their compositions.
The band's agenda has always been clear and uncontrived: "Our goal has been to stay open to whatever currents guide us through our lives – musically, thematically, in every way, to be ourselves" explains SOAD's soft-spoken, but big-voiced, singer Serj Tankian. "Our songs and themes range from political to social to daily angst to love to hate to dope".
